Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF) Hair Growth Therapy

Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF)

What is Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF)?

KGF (Keratinocyte Growth Factor), also known as FGF7, is a potent mitogen for different types of epithelial cells, which regulates migration and differentiation of these cells and protects them from various insults under stress conditions.

As the most dominant cell type constituting the epidermis, keratinocytes play multiple roles essential for skin repair. They are the executors of the re-epithelialization process, whereby keratinocytes migrate, proliferate, and differentiate to restore the epidermal barrier.

KGF has also shown to be effective for treating hair loss in both men and women.

How does KGF treat hair loss?

Keratinocyte growth factor is an important endogenous mediator of hair follicle growth, development, and differentiation. Normalisation of the nu/nu follicular differentiation defect and amelioration of chemotherapy-induced alopecia.

With continued use as a topical serum, KGF can help reduce the effects of excessive hair shedding, and promote the formation of healthy hair growth in patients experiencing common hair loss conditions such as androgenic alopecia, alopecia areata, and traction alopecia.

How effective is KGF for treating hair loss?

KGF does not cure or fully reverse hair loss, but, it can help make significant improvements to the hair. KGF (as a serum) is most effective when used during early stages of hair loss. It is also more effective when used in conjunction with other hair loss treatments, including micro needling.
KGF hair growth serum
KGF Serum is a non-medical, topical serum for treating hair loss. Many users see it as a safe and effective alternative to harsh medications such as minoxidil. KGF can also be purchased in its pure powder form, but it is advised to use it as a serum for best effects.

What are the negative side-effects of KGF?

The synthetic version of KGF is absolutely safe to use. There is no risk of any major negative side-effects. Minor side-effects may include an itchy scalp, and greasy hair, but these are not common.

Is KGF expensive?

KGF can be an expensive treatment because it is ongoing. However, it is not a treatment that needs to be used eternally, so the running costs will come to an end at some point.

Should you try KGF?

KGF is a treatment that should be considered if you are experiencing early stages of hair loss, caused by androgenic alopecia (male/female pattern baldness), as well as other common types.  KGF can also be used for temporary hair loss conditions such as alopecia areata.

If you are expecting a miracle treatment for hair loss, then you will not find it in KGF. Results usually take time, and the treatment is far more effective when used alongside a good hair supplement, or a good micro needling routine.
